.numbers files are spreadsheets, created with Apple Numbers, which is part of the iWork package. Numbers is available for Mac OS X and iOS and is a competitor to Microsoft Excel. .numbers files can contain tables, charts, formulas and images.

XLS is Microsoft Excel spreadsheet file that stores data and manipulates several mathematical operations. This spreadsheet file is supported by most of the open source or proprietary spreadsheet software and is most commonly used with Microsoft Excel part of the Microsoft Office range.
